Octopus - free pdf crochet pattern.

The finished octopus is approximately 10,5’’ / 27 cm / tall.

Abbreviations

mc = magic circle / adjustable ring

st = stitch

ch = chain

sl = slip stitch

sc = single crochet

dc = double crochet

inc = increase (single crochet twice in the same stitch)

dec = decrease (single crochet two stitches together)

[ ] = one set to be repeated

( ) = total number of stitches in a round

RND = round

FO = Finish off

Important Note:

Each piece begins with a “ring”. Use any type of ring you are comfortable with (i.e. adjustable loop, chain 2 and single crochet in second chain, etc.). Work in one continuous spiral and mark the last stitch of each round to keep track of where you are.

Materials needed

· Hook Size US Aluminum B-1 (3,5 mm)

· Orange and white yarn for octopus. I used I used Apple doğal iplik /100%; 100 gr – 380m/

· Toy stuffing

· Yarn needle

· Stitch holder

· Piece of cloth or sock

Start to work with Orange colored yarn.

Rnd1: Make a ring with 6 sc

Rnd 2: [inc] 6times (12 sts)

Rnd 3: [sc 1, inc 1] 6times (18 sts)

Rnd 4: [sc 2, inc 1] 6times (24 sts)

Rnd 5: [sc 3, inc 1] 6times (30 sts)

Rnd 6: [sc 4, inc 1] 6times (36 sts)

Rnd7: sc arnd (36 sts)

Rnd 8: [sc 5, inc 1] 6times (42 sts)

Rnd 9-12: sc arnd (42 sts)

Rnd 13: [sc 12, dec 1] 3times (39 sts)

Rnd14: sc arnd (39 sts)

Rnd 15: [sc 11, dec 1] 3times (36 sts)

Rnd 16-18: sc arnd (36 sts)

Rnd 19: [sc 10, dec 1] 3times (33 sts)

Rnd20: sc arnd (33 sts)

Rnd 21: [sc 9, dec 1] 3times (30 sts)

Rnd 22-23: sc arnd (30 sts)

Finish with a sl st and pull the thread through. Weave in the ends.

Bottom.

Use Orange colored yarn.

Rnd1: Make a ring with 6 sc

Rnd 2: [inc] 6times (12 sts)

Rnd 3: [sc 1, inc 1] 6times (18 sts)

Rnd 4: [sc 2, inc 1] 6times (24 sts)

İf you make this toy to help comfort prematüre babies I recomend to use cotton sock for stuffing.

This will definitely keep the stuffing inside preventing children from pulling it out since they love to poke and pull at their toys. İnsert a piece of stocking that is big enough to be stretched to fill what your completed project will approximately be. When you are nearly closed, cut off the excess stocking and sew it closed with a sewing needle and thread.

Now put the bottom circle on to the body

hook through both parts as seen below. Yarn over, pull through.

Now, start to make tentacles.

For that make a chain, 50 chain stitches, then

into 2nd stitch from the hook make 1 Inc - 2 single crochet into one, repeat the same all along, you´ll have the curly look

then make 2 sc throught head and bottom.

Repeat 7 times more. ( start to make another tentacle, again 50 chain stitches and again 2 sc throught head and bottom…)

There will be 8 tentacles.

Eyes (make2 pieces)

Use white colored yarn.

Rnd1: Make a ring with 6 sc

Rnd 2: [inc] 6times (12 sts)

Stitch the eyelashes on with a tapestry needle and black yarn.

Sew eyes to the head.
